The Active Seal from ITT Flygt is a new zero-leakage, double-seal system that prevents liquid from penetrating into the stator housing. Active Seal offers several advantages over traditional seals:
-
Zero leakage
The viscous shear of the fluid in the laser-cut grooves creates a hydrodynamic pumping effect that directs any liquid on the stator side back to the buffer-fluid side of the seal.
-
Less downtime
Increased sealing reliability and minimal leakage into the stator housing and/or inspection chamber minimise the risk of bearing or stator failure.
-
Lower operating and maintenance costs
Products from ITT Flygt with Active Seal technology can have longer inspection invervals, especially for continuous duty operation.
The Active Seal is made up of two parts:
-
An inner seal which acts as a micro-pump, continuously preventing liquid from entering the motor cavity. The inner seal creates a pumping action through the rotation of the laser-cut pumping vanes on the seal face.
-
An outer seal which prevents leakage of the pumped media into the the buffer chamber.
New Plug-In seals incorporating the Active Seal system are completely interchangeable with the old generation of Plug-In seals. The new active inner seal is also interchangeable with existing inner seals for many Flygt double seal systems with separate single seals.
