Dromonby Lane Sewage Pumping Station
C&A Pumps is a framework contractor for implementing Northumbrian Water’s AMP4 Capital Delivery Programme. NWL have identified a number of sewage pumping stations in need of refurbishment and as a result, C&A has undertaken a number of condition surveys to determine the extent of the work required. Dromonby Lane SPS, an ejector station situated in Great Broughton near Stokesley, was identified as such a station. Following the condition survey, a number of design proposals — including detailed drawings — were provided to NWL before the final design was agreed upon. Due to the excellent reliability of submersible pumps supplied by framework suppliers, it was decided that the existing dry-well would be converted into a wet-well, with a new underground valve chamber being constructed alongside. Two Flygt submersible pumps (NP3127 181 HT) were installed in the new wet-well; together with all the associated pipe-work and cabling, and an ultrasonic level controller. All of the additional pipe-work, valves and cabling required in the valve chamber was installed to NWL E0702 specifications.
The existing building on site was demolished and replaced with a steel kiosk — designed and manufactured by C&A — housing a new control panel, with the surrounding compound being reinstated to allow maintenance vehicle access. During the programme an over-pumping operation was implemented to allow the site to operate as normal, avoiding any inconvenience to the residents served by the station.
